PostSubject: Hosting   Any website suggestions?? Icon_minitimeMon Aug 13, 2007 3:45 pm

I can give you about 2Gb of space on my webserver if you want some free hosting - it is a linux box running apache. I may also be able to provide some help on the site design if you need it (that is what I do for a living).
Avoid table layouts as much as possible when designing for the PS3 browser and go for CSS/XHTML based templates if you can, also try to avoid fixed width/heights/font sizes as as there will be a diverse range of screens that people will be viewing the site on.
I also found CSS rollovers don't work well in the PS3 browser, though flash support seems to work OK.
Cheers, Phil

Phil,

Can the server support ASP? as I work with SQL server/Access on windows platform, so I guess that we would need to use MySQL instead. Also need to support phpBB for the forum to be migrated.

We are currently working on a free ASP based site that supports Access databases only and there is a limitation of 25Mb per file so there is not much I can do in terms of DB driven website.

With the images that we are using it make it hard to layout the screen without the use of a table if you can point out a better way of acheiving this then all the better

PostSubject: Server   Any website suggestions?? Icon_minitimeMon Aug 13, 2007 4:24 pm

The server supports ASP, PHP, SSI, SSL, CGI/Perl, Python. And yes, you would need to use mySQL for the databases. Might be worth sticking with the windows server if that's what the site is currently designed for though.

I have BBthreads forums running on a couple of our hosted sites which is all PHP and mySQL driven and it works well.

If you want to look into it I can set you up a user account and give access to a hosting management control panel therein, and you can look around and decide for yourself.

Let me know.

Hmm..

I build in dreamweaver so I'm none to fussed about which platform it resides on..

It will be a better option thant the free based site (only allows a maximum of 300Mb space) plus I will be able to migrate this forum in giving a all in one site option like Iain is after.

Plus he will not have to pay moonfruit anymore..

Iain's shout I guess, but if you plan on sticking around then I see no problem.. I'm up for it.. as I've only starting building on the other free site and hit limitations already..

Yeah, I've got a suggestion.

De-Clutter the forum, It's full of crap and pointless Rooms.
We don't need 3 seperate rooms for 1 game cuz eventually we'll have loads of games on here. All topics could be posted under 1 game wether it be matches or general talk. We got 3 folders for each game when really I rekon just 1 game folder would be much better.

So you'd click on "playing games" or whatever the folders called, then click on the game and walla' that's the folder.

If you don't agree then Bite Me!!! :-D but hey I'm just voicing my opinion. Well typing it rather :-D

Ciao.

Actually we have two folders for each game.. it works easier this way trust me..

You have the main forum for the game, which is where everybody can post.. then you have the fixtures and results forum where only mods/admins can create posts.

If I were to put the fixtures and results in the main forum for the game, they would have to be sticky's which would then make all others posts end up starting on the second page..

You'll see when we start playing more frequently how it all works..

But thanks for your comments.. I've ignored them Laughing

Hmmm, for some reason you can't post topics/replies to the forums using Apple's Safari browser. So that rules out using it for me and possibly the one other game playing mac user in the UK.

Can you browse on the other "being built" site??

Still not been able to get the dreamweaver connection through to mySQL on ASP working yet. Does the server allow me to use MSAccess??

This is why I've introduced Gaming Groups.. I'll tweak it slightly..

What you should see now is only those games that you are registered up to..

Fair enough about single forum things, I do see your point. But look at all the text everywhere... Just clutter and crap everywhere :-D Avatars should possibly be smaller and kept to an adequete size. Yours is fine but mine is too big and will remove it in time when I am not sitting at work supposed to be working but typing this instead... :-D

Dunno if people can see what I mean, but these forums need to be de-clutterd and moderned up a bit :-D no offence...

Danny, I didn't ignore your message :-P but will be ignoring you in games as from today until 25/12/07.... So Have a good christmas dude :-D speak to you soon.

That was a general email that went out to all people currently playing the on warhawk... need to start the clan matches with console gaming and I'm not going to challenge until we have at least 8 players.

Why until that time... did you break your console and waiting for santa to bring you a new one.. or have your comms given up the ghost.. Laughing
